                        Ruben Barerra - Phillip Markham

                        Picture
When I was 10, I was at the local county fair when I came across a hog calling competition. After a few minutes of watching I figured I could do better. So I went on stage and, after they adjusted the mike downward I gave it my all. I couldn't believe it when I won the championship!

Bolstered by the win, for the next 8 yrs., I went to every other county I could get into and winning their hog calling contest. Unless your from Brooklyn and your only connection to pork is ordering it from a chinese restaurant, us folks from Indiana consider this a big deal. I can't tell you how many times my picture appreared in the local paper.

But while waiting to go on stage at my last calling competition I noticed a greased pig contest going on next door. Figuring I reached the pinnacle of hog calling I needed something else to conquer. Well one thing led to another and 3 yrs. later I became the greased pig world champion held at the Las Vegas rodeo. There I was, on stage, me and the pig holding up our trophys. I also won myself a big college scholarship and went and got myself an accounting degree from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI and later passed the CPA exam. Although it hasn't had anything to with pork I've had a rewarding carrier in accounting.

But about 3 yrs. ago I was looking wistfully at my greased pig trophy sitting on my desk and thinking about all my past fame. Wanting that feeling back I joined PInckney Players. I've had various parts in Scrooge, and Sound of Music. I also joined Town Hall Players and was Sgt. O'Hara in Arsenic and Old Lace. But in Move Over Mrs. Markham, I've had my best experience to date. I must say though, this British farce brings back memories of catching a greased pig
