This ever popular Rodgers and Hammerstein musical is set in Austria in 1938 prior to the start of the War. The story opens when a young postulant, Maria Rainer, proves too high-spirited for the religious life and is dispatched by her Mother Abbess to serve as governess to the seven mischievous children of widowed naval officer, Captain Georg von Trapp. Maria’s growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually capture the heart of the stern Captain and the two marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon, they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain’s immediate service in their navy. The family’s narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre. Filled with musical favorites, such as Do-Re-Mi, My Favorite Things, Edelweiss, and Climb Every Mountain, this show will delight audiences of all ages.
