What to prepare to audition for Legally Blonde
Singing: please prepare ONE of the selected songs below that best fits your voice. You can only prepare one. Dance: a short combination will be taught. Reading: readings will be done at callbacks
CASTING: No role is small, especially in the world of Legally Blonde, where actors change hats quickly from character to character. This show is full of energy, so we need every role to be bright and dynamic. This show has many supporting/ensemble characters, and it is expected that ensemble members will be cast in numerous ensemble roles in the production.

ELLE WOODS [Female, Stage Age 22-25, Mezzo-Soprano Belt] This leading lady is the head of her UCLA sorority Delta Nu and has a love of fashion and style. When Warner dumps her for not being serious enough, she decides to prove him wrong by going to Harvard Law School. Her pink outfits, blonde hair, and Southern California attitude make her appear less intelligent and an outcast when compared to the prim and proper Harvard community. Elle Woods discredits the classic blonde bimbo stereotype and helps win a court case, graduates at the top of her class, and finds love with Emmett - who appreciates her intelligence and personality. Elle is a very positive person who always sees the best in others and herself. She is loyal, bubbly and honest. Actor should have strong vocal stamina (sings in 16 numbers) and be able to act and dance well. Tap dance experience a plus. Must be comfortable being kissed on stage, must be comfortable with dogs.

EMMETT FORREST [Male, Stage Age 24-27 Tenor] One of Harvard’s top law students from Roxbury, Ma; editor of the Harvard Law Review and Callahan’s Teaching Assistant. Goal-oriented, at the cost of his social skills. He takes an early interest in Elle and remains interested throughout the story- giving her advice and tutoring help. Eventually falls in love with Elle. Emmett is charming and friendly. Must be comfortable being kissed on stage, must be comfortable with dogs.

PAULETTE BUONAFONTE [Female, Stage Age 30s-40s Mezzo-Soprano Belt] Paulette is the funny owner of Hair Affair, a local salon. A “townie” in Cambridge. Elle’s favorite brassy manicurist who longs for a meaningful romance of her own and loves anything to do with Ireland. Paulette provides sound advice and companionship to Elle. Must have great comic timing; a pronounced Bostonian accent is a plus. Must be comfortable being kissed onstage, must be comfortable with dogs.

PROFESSOR CALLAHAN[Male, Stage Age 40-60, Tenor] A pompous, smooth, authoritative, and manipulative law professor. He has a reputation for being an extremely strict and tough professor and a highly successful lawyer. He will do anything to get what he wants, regardless of morality. Actor should be comfortable with a forced stage kiss.

WARNER HUNTINGTON III [Male, Stage Age 22-25, Tenor] Good-looking and charming, yet shallow and self-absorbed. Warner breaks up with Elle to go to Harvard Law. He only sees Elle as a bubbly dumb blonde and doesn’t think she is serious enough to settle down with. He cares deeply about his reputation. Actor must be comfortable with a stage kiss.

VIVIENNE KENSINGTON[Female, Stage Age 22-25 Mezzo-Soprano Belt] A smart, serious, and uptight law student, seemingly the polar-opposite of Elle. She comes from a very conservative East Coast background and is everything that Warner needs to make a serious move to become a lawyer. When she becomes Warner’s fiancée, she initially dismisses Elle but grows to become her friend. Must be comfortable being kissed on stage, must be willing dye your hair if you’re a natural blonde. Vivienne can’t be a blonde.
BROOKE WYNDHAM [Female, Stage Age 25-35, Mezzo-Soprano] An exercise video tycoon who is an alumnus of Elle’s sorority She is energetic and charismatic, yet currently on trial for her husband’s murder. Dance skills and being physically fit is a must for this role, to properly do high level aerobics with enough stamina to continue singing.

ENID HOOPS [Female, Stage Age 22-30, Soprano/Mezzo Belter] Enid is a strong, passionate, and outwardly feminist law student at Harvard, who is skeptical of Elle, and eventually becomes her friend. Actor must be comfortable playing possible lesbian stereotypes. Must have great comedic timing and be able to patter- sing clearly.

DELTA NU SISTERS (Females, Stage Age 20-25, Altos, Mezzos, Sopranos) Elle’s Delta Nu sisters. Stereotypical California sorority girls. They admire Elle deeply and will do anything for her. doubling as the Greek Chorus and other ensemble members.

PILAR: Delta Nu sorority sister/Greek Chorus Member. She is the sassy and sensible one. SERENA: Delta Nu sorority sister/Greek Chorus Member. She is the UCLA cheerleader who has spunk and isn’t afraid to tell everyone he opinion. She is also Jewish. MARGOT: Delta Nu sorority sister/Greek Chorus Member. She is the man hungry, seemingly dim-witted one. Actor must be comfortable with dogs. KATE: Delta Nu sorority sister/Greek Chorus Member. She is the smart and nerdy one who is education chair at Delta Nu. She helps Elle prepare for the LSAT. She has a featured solo in “What you Want.” QUINN, ADDISON, AVERY, DANA, GAELEN, HARPER: These girls are part of the Delta Nu’s/Greek Chorus. LEILANI: One of the Delta Nu sorority sisters, has a short-featured solo in “Omigod You Guys
KYLE B. O’BOYLE [Male, Stage Age 25-45, Any Voice Type] An attractive, smooth-talking UPS delivery man. He is Paulette’s dream guy. Irish step dances in Legally Blonde Remix – Actor must be comfortable with dogs.
AUDITION SONG: Serious
ENSEMBLE [Males & Females, Stage Age 18-70, All Voice Types]: A high energy cast of singers, dancers and actors to play Delta Nu Sorority Girls, Frat Boys, Harvard Law Students, Salon Employees/Patrons, Prison Inmates, workout video dancers. Must have big personalities/stage presence. Many have featured solos and/or lines. Looking for actors and singers who can dance and move. Some Featured Ensemble female characters will include: these characters have lines and may sing alone in a few songs.

SALESWOMAN: (Stage Age 20s-20s) Tries to scam Elle into buying a dress, thinking that she’s just a dumb blonde
ELLE’S MOM:(Stage Age: 48-60): High society Malibu socialite, comedically snaps selfies with her daughter.
WHITNEY(Stage Age 25- 35: A snobby Harvard law student and Vivienne’s best friend. Her dad is next in line to be the Speaker of the House.
CHUTNEY WYNDHAM: (Stage Age 25- 35) Brooke’s bitter stepdaughter. Featured in the courtroom scene as a witness. Must be able to have a comedic nervous breakdown onstage.
JUDGE: Stage Age: 40s-50s) Featured in the courtroom scene, with a short vocal solo in “Scene of the Crime/Omigod Reprise”.
DISTRICT ATTORNEY JOYCE RILEY: Stage Age: 40s-50s) Featured in the courtroom scene, prosecuting Brooke Wyndham
GRAND MASTER CHAD: (Stage Age 18-24): UCLA frat boy, “Jamaican Me Crazy” Reggae Rapper/Hip Hop Dancer. Featured singer/dancer in What You Want number, has a featured reggae solo in “What You Want”.
SUNDEEP PADAMADAN:(Stage Age 22-27) New Harvard law student. Was royalty in his home country until his government was overthrown. Attending Harvard primarily to network and gain allies to assist in taking back his throne. Featured solo in “The Harvard Variations”.
AARON SCHULTZ:(Stage Age 22-27). A new Harvard Law Student and multi-millionaire. Ridiculously accomplished and sure of himself, despite a bit of social awkwardness. He’s smug, arrogant, and privileged. Featured solo in “The Harvard Variations”.
NIKOS ARGITAKOS:[Male Presenting or non-binary, Stage Age 20s-35]: Brooke Wyndham’s slightly effeminate European pool boy. Featured in “Gay or European”. Must be comfortable portraying a stereotypical gay male. Will most likely share a stage kiss with another male presenting actor.
CARLOS: (Male Presenting or non-Binary, Stage Age 20s-35): Nikos’s “best friend” aka boyfriend. Featured in “Gay or European”.”. Must be comfortable portraying a stereotypical gay male. Will most likely share a stage kiss with another male presenting actor.
MR. WOODS "Elle’s Dad”: ( Stage Age: 48-60): Elle’s wealthy, “country club” father. He loves his daughter and although he would rather have Elle stay in California, he is willing to pay for Elle to attend Harvard Law if she gets in. Comes to support her during her first trial. Looking for a singer who can act and move. has a featured solo in “What You Want”.
STORE MANAGER: A friend of Elle’s who offers her the latest fashion. Has a featured solo in “Omigod You Guys”.
WINTHROP, LOWELL, & PFORZHEIMER: (Stage Age 35-55) Harvard Admissions Council Members who evaluate Elle’s entrance into Harvard. Winthrop does not think Elle should be granted entrance while Lowell and Pfozheimer try to convince him otherwise. They are featured in the last part of What You Want:
CASHIER & KIKI THE COLORIST: Two employees at the Hair Affair salon, with a featured dance solo in “Bend and Snap”.
COURT STENOGRAPHER: Comedic feature in the courtroom scene. Can be played either monotone or overly enthusiastic.
